Why Your Heater Needs a Fall Visit
Between March and November, your heating system collects dust, develops corrosion, and hosts whatever decides to move in. Louisiana’s year-round humidity is the primary culprit, but the agricultural activity around Maurice adds pollen, field dust, and particulate matter to the mix.
Here’s what that means for your equipment:
Flame sensor corrosion. The flame sensor confirms that the gas burner is actually lit. Humidity corrodes the sensor during the off-season, and when the furnace tries to start in fall, the sensor can’t detect the flame. The control board shuts off the gas as a safety measure. Cleaning the sensor during a tune-up takes minutes.
Dusty burners. Accumulated dust on gas burner assemblies causes delayed ignition, where gas builds up briefly before catching with a “pop.” Repeated delayed ignition stresses the heat exchanger. We clean the burners to prevent it.
Stuck reversing valves. In heat pumps, the reversing valve switches between cooling and heating. After months in cooling mode, it can seize. We cycle and test the valve to confirm it’s producing warm air.
Degraded ignitors. Ignitors weaken gradually. A tune-up catches a failing ignitor before it breaks on a cold night.

Reversing valve operation test, defrost system check, refrigerant charge verification, outdoor coil inspection, auxiliary heat strip test, and thermostat staging calibration.

Carbon Monoxide Safety
Every gas furnace tune-up includes a CO test. We measure at your supply registers with a calibrated meter to confirm combustion gases aren’t leaking into your living space. A cracked heat exchanger, blocked flue, or incomplete combustion can all produce elevated CO levels. This test catches problems that you can’t see or smell.
