Fall Tune-Up: Component by Component
We inspect every part of your heating system that could fail during the winter season.
Heat exchanger. This is the most critical component in a gas furnace. It separates hot combustion gases from the air flowing into your home. A cracked heat exchanger leaks carbon monoxide. We inspect every seam, look for rust and metal fatigue, and test CO at your supply vents to verify the system is safe.
Burner assembly. Eight months of dust and debris settle on the burners during the off-season. Dirty burners cause delayed ignition (a loud “pop” when the furnace starts) and uneven flame patterns. We clean the entire assembly.
Ignitor. This component wears out gradually. We test its electrical resistance and compare it to manufacturer specs. A weakening ignitor will eventually fail without warning, usually on the coldest night of the year.
Flame sensor. The number-one cause of “furnace won’t stay lit” calls. Vermilion Parish humidity corrodes this sensor over the summer. We clean it during every tune-up.
Safety controls. Limit switches, pressure switches, and rollout switches all get tested to confirm they’ll do their job if something goes wrong.
Flue and exhaust. We inspect the entire exhaust path for blockages, disconnections, or damage. Mud dauber nests in exhaust vents are common in Erath and are a serious CO hazard.
Heat Pump Specifics
For homes with heat pumps, we test the reversing valve, check defrost controls, verify refrigerant charge, inspect the outdoor coil, test auxiliary heat strips, and calibrate your thermostat for proper staging.

Erath is close enough to the Gulf that the air carries measurable salt content, which accelerates corrosion on metal HVAC components. Flame sensors, electrical terminals, and outdoor unit contacts all degrade faster here than in communities further north.
