Equipment That Makes Sense for the Climate
Efficiency Standards
Current federal regulations require a minimum of 15 SEER2 for new residential systems in our region. Your existing system likely rates between 10 and 13 SEER if it’s a decade old or more. Even stepping up to the new minimum represents a significant efficiency improvement.
For homeowners who want to minimize monthly operating costs, 17 to 20 SEER2 models offer progressively better efficiency. With cooling seasons that stretch from early spring through late fall, the energy savings accumulate quickly.
Compressor Technology and Humidity
Single-stage compressors work at one speed: full power. They get the job done, but they cycle on and off frequently, especially in transitional weather. Each short cycle reduces the system’s ability to remove moisture from the air.
Two-stage compressors run at a lower output for most conditions, shifting to full power only during peak demand. The longer, steadier cycles pull significantly more humidity out of the air.
