Heating Maintenance on the Island
Avery Island is one of the most unique communities in Louisiana, and its location creates conditions that are particularly tough on HVAC equipment. Surrounded by marsh and sitting on a salt dome, the island sees some of the highest sustained humidity in the region. That humidity doesn’t take a break when your heating system shuts down for the season.
With roughly 400 residents and no local HVAC service, getting preventive maintenance before winter is the smart play. We service Avery Island from our Abbeville headquarters, a short drive through New Iberia, and we’re familiar with the homes and systems on the island.
What We Check
Our fall tune-up adapts to whatever heating system you have.
For gas furnaces, we inspect the heat exchanger for cracks, test gas pressure, clean burners, check the ignitor, clean the flame sensor, test safety controls, inspect the flue, and measure carbon monoxide at your supply registers.
For heat pumps, we test the reversing valve, check defrost controls, verify refrigerant charge, inspect the outdoor coil, test auxiliary heat strips, and calibrate your thermostat.
Both system types get blower motor checks, electrical connection inspection, and filter evaluation.
Salt Air and Marsh Humidity
Most Acadiana communities deal with high humidity. Avery Island deals with high humidity plus salt-laden air from the surrounding marshes. This combination accelerates corrosion on every metal component in your heating system.
Flame sensors corrode faster here than almost anywhere else in our service area. Electrical terminals develop oxidation that creates intermittent connections. Outdoor unit components, on heat pumps especially, show more surface corrosion than identical equipment installed just a few miles inland.
Our tune-up addresses this by cleaning corroded sensors, treating electrical connections, and checking for the kind of accelerated wear that Avery Island’s environment produces. If we spot a component that’s deteriorating faster than expected, we’ll let you know so you can plan the replacement on your schedule instead of during an emergency.
Limited Options Make Prevention Critical
If your heater fails on a cold night, you’re waiting for a service truck from New Iberia, Abbeville, or Lafayette. During a cold snap, when demand for heating repair peaks across the region, wait times can stretch to hours. A fall tune-up catches the problems that cause those failures and addresses them during a scheduled, predictable visit.
For year-round maintenance that covers both your spring cooling service and fall heating tune-up, our maintenance plans handle the scheduling automatically.
