New Iberia, LA

AC installation in New Iberia, LA from F & R Air Conditioning. Expert system sizing and Lennox Premier Dealer installation for Iberia Parish homes.

Replacing Your AC in New Iberia

If your current system is 12 to 15 years old, struggles to keep up during July, or needs repairs that cost more than half what a new unit would, it’s time to start thinking about replacement. New Iberia homes take a beating from the Gulf Coast climate, and older equipment simply can’t deliver the efficiency or humidity control that modern systems provide.

F & R Air Conditioning has served Iberia Parish since 1956. We started in Abbeville and expanded across the region because homeowners kept calling. When you’re ready for a new AC, we handle the entire process: evaluation, equipment selection, installation, and follow-up.

Why Your Old System Is Costing You

Air conditioning technology has changed dramatically in the past decade. If your current unit carries a SEER rating of 10 or 12 (common for systems installed before 2015), a new 16 SEER2 system uses roughly 35-40% less electricity to produce the same cooling. In New Iberia, where you might run your AC from March through late October, those savings add up fast.

Beyond efficiency, older systems lose their ability to dehumidify effectively. Worn compressor valves, degraded refrigerant charges, and aging coils all reduce moisture removal. You might set the thermostat to 72 and technically reach that temperature, but the house still feels sticky and uncomfortable. A new system with a properly matched evaporator coil solves that problem immediately.

Sizing for New Iberia’s Building Stock

New Iberia has a diverse housing mix. The historic homes along Main Street and near Bouligny Plaza often have high ceilings, single-pane windows, and limited insulation in the attic. These homes require careful load calculations because the cooling demand per square foot is higher than in newer construction.

Out along Center Street and the Highway 90 corridor, you’ll find newer subdivisions with better insulation and tighter building envelopes. These homes often need less tonnage than homeowners expect, and installing too large a system is one of the most common mistakes we correct.

We perform a Manual J load calculation on every installation. This accounts for insulation R-values, window area, ceiling height, ductwork layout, and orientation to the sun. The goal is a system that runs long enough to dehumidify properly while still cooling your home efficiently.

Choosing the Right Equipment

Compressor Types

Single-stage compressors run at full capacity whenever they cycle on. They’re the most affordable option but provide less humidity control in our climate.

Two-stage compressors operate at a lower speed most of the time, stepping up to full capacity only on the hottest days. The longer run time at reduced speed removes significantly more moisture, which matters in Iberia Parish.

Variable-speed compressors adjust continuously, matching output to demand. They’re the most efficient and provide the best humidity control, but they carry a higher upfront cost. For homeowners who plan to stay in their home long-term, the energy savings and comfort improvement often justify the investment.

SEER2 Ratings and Your Climate

The federal minimum for our region is 15 SEER2. We typically recommend 16 to 20 SEER2 for New Iberia homes based on how heavily the system will be used. A higher SEER2 rating means lower operating costs, and with cooling seasons that stretch 8 months or longer, the payback period on a premium system is shorter here than almost anywhere else in the country.

The Installation Itself

We remove your existing equipment, install new indoor and outdoor components, connect all refrigerant lines and electrical, and commission the system with a full test cycle. Refrigerant charge, airflow volume, temperature split across the coil, and thermostat operation are all verified before we consider the job complete.

If your ductwork is undersized or deteriorated, we’ll address that during installation. New equipment connected to leaking or restricted ducts can’t perform to spec, and we won’t install a system we can’t stand behind.
