Step two: check the simple things first. Thermostat settings, breaker panel, air filter. A clogged filter can cause a furnace to overheat and shut down on its high-limit safety. It can also cause a heat pump to ice over. We won’t charge you for a complex diagnosis when the problem is a $5 filter.
Step three: systematic diagnosis. If the basics check out, we move to electrical testing, refrigerant measurements (heat pumps), combustion analysis (gas furnaces), and airflow evaluation. Gas Valve and Ignition Issues
Carencro has a number of homes with natural gas furnaces, and gas valve problems are more common here than most homeowners realize. A gas valve that sticks partially open can cause delayed ignition, which sounds like a small explosion inside the furnace cabinet. A valve that won’t open at all results in no heat. Blower Motor Repair
The blower motor pushes heated air through your duct system into your rooms. When it fails, the system might still generate heat, but that heat has nowhere to go. In a furnace, this triggers the high-limit switch (a safety that prevents the heat exchanger from overheating). In a heat pump, you’ll feel almost no air movement from your vents.
Blower motors can fail outright, or they can gradually slow down as bearings wear. A motor that’s running but at reduced speed often goes unnoticed until the house just can’t maintain temperature on a cold day. Listen for any grinding, squealing, or rattling from the indoor unit.
Carencro’s Growing Neighborhoods
The newer subdivisions in Carencro typically have heat pump systems with electric backup heat strips. These systems are efficient and reliable, but the heat strips draw significant electricity. If your winter electric bills are unusually high, your heat pump may not be transitioning into heating mode properly, forcing the backup strips to do all the work.
