Breaux Bridge Heating Repair

The Crawfish Capital of the World knows its way around food, festivals, and Bayou Teche sunsets. What it doesn’t always know is why the heater stopped working. That’s where we come in.

F & R Air Conditioning has been repairing heating systems across St. Martin Parish for decades. Whether you’re in one of the older homes near downtown along Bridge Street or in a newer neighborhood east of the Atchafalaya, we’ve got the experience to diagnose and fix your heating problem quickly.

Furnace Repair

Gas furnaces are still common in Breaux Bridge, particularly in homes built before the 1990s. The most frequent furnace issues we see in this area:

Ignitor failure. Modern furnaces use hot surface ignitors (a small ceramic element that glows to light the gas). These ignitors are fragile and have a lifespan of roughly 5 to 7 years. When they crack or wear out, the furnace won’t light at all. This is one of our most common repair calls, and it’s a straightforward fix that we usually complete in under an hour.

Flame sensor fouling. The flame sensor confirms that gas is actually burning after the ignitor does its job. When it gets coated with carbon or corroded from humidity, it can’t detect the flame, and the furnace shuts down as a safety precaution. Cleaning or replacing the flame sensor solves this.

Draft inducer motor. This motor pulls combustion gases through the heat exchanger and out the flue. When it starts failing, you’ll hear a loud humming or grinding before the burners light. Ignoring it leads to a no-heat situation and potentially dangerous venting issues.

Heat Pump Heating Mode Repair

For homes with heat pumps, heating mode failures are different from cooling failures because the system is running in reverse. The refrigerant flows the opposite direction, and components that don’t matter much in cooling (like the reversing valve and defrost board) suddenly become critical.

A heat pump that cooled your house perfectly all summer can refuse to heat in winter because:

  • The reversing valve solenoid is stuck (the system stays in cooling mode)
  • The defrost timer or control board has failed (ice builds up on the outdoor coil and blocks airflow)
  • Auxiliary heat strips in the air handler are burned out (the system can’t supplement on very cold days)

We carry common heat pump parts on our trucks, so many of these repairs can be completed in a single visit.

Ductwork Matters More Than You Think

Breaux Bridge has a lot of pier-and-beam homes, especially in the older parts of town. The ductwork in these homes often runs under the house or in the attic, and after years of Louisiana humidity, those ducts develop leaks. You could have a perfectly functioning furnace or heat pump, but if 30% of your heated air is leaking into the crawlspace, your house is never going to feel warm.

If you’re running the heat constantly but certain rooms stay cold, a duct inspection might be the real answer, not an equipment repair.
