What You Can Do to Stay Warm if Your Heat Goes Out
If your heat goes out in the winter, the temperature inside your home can drop fast. Even here in South Louisiana, where winters are mild compared to up north, a cold snap with no heat is no fun. The good news is there are a few things you can do to stay warm while you wait for a repair.
Use Your Oven
You can heat your kitchen and the surrounding rooms by using your oven. It’s a great time to do a lot of baking. When you’re finished, you should leave the oven door slightly ajar so that the hot air can warm the surrounding areas.
Pile on Clothes
One of the easiest ways you can stay warm is by putting on extra layers. You may need to put on several layers in order to keep from feeling cold. If you’re relaxing on the couch or lying in bed, you should use a few blankets as well. This will allow you to keep from feeling cold even if it’s rather chilly inside of your house.
Close Doors to Rooms That You Aren’t Using
When your heat is out, it’s a lot easier to warm just one or two rooms in your home at a time rather than the entire house. This is why you should close the doors to rooms that you aren’t using.
Get a Space Heater
You can keep certain rooms of your residence warm by using a space heater. Most modern space heaters warm up a room in just a few minutes. Just make sure you don’t leave it unattended and that you turn it off before you go to sleep at night.
