Getting Ready for Winter Along the I-10 Corridor

What We Do During the Visit
Gas Furnace Tune-Up
We inspect the heat exchanger for cracks (the most important safety check in the entire visit), test gas pressure, clean the burner assembly, check the ignitor and measure its resistance, clean the flame sensor, test all safety switches, inspect the exhaust flue, and measure CO levels at your supply registers.
Heat Pump Tune-Up
We test the reversing valve to confirm it switches to heating mode properly, check the defrost system, verify refrigerant charge, inspect the outdoor coil for debris, test each auxiliary heat strip, and calibrate your thermostat staging.
All Systems
Blower motor inspection, electrical connection check and tightening, amp draw measurement, and filter evaluation.
The Off-Season Toll
Between March and November, your heating system collects dust, develops corrosion, and potentially hosts wildlife. Duson’s position between agricultural land and the more developed Lafayette metro means you get a combination of rural and suburban conditions, both of which contribute to off-season degradation.
Flame sensors are the component we clean most often during fall tune-ups. Humidity corrodes the sensor rod, and when the furnace tries to light, the corroded sensor can’t detect the flame. The system shuts the gas off as a safety measure and locks out after three failed attempts. Cleaning it takes minutes during a tune-up but can cost significantly more as an emergency repair call.
Burner dust is the second most common finding. Accumulated dust causes delayed ignition, where gas builds up briefly before catching with a small “boom.” That force stresses the heat exchanger over time. Clean burners light immediately and burn evenly.
Why Schedule a Tune-Up Instead of Waiting
The math is simple. A scheduled tune-up during October or November is planned, predictable, and affordable. An emergency repair call in January, during a cold snap when every HVAC company in the area is fielding calls, is none of those things.
