Understanding the Benefits of a SEER2 System

One way to evaluate the efficiency of an AC system is by looking at its SEER (Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio) rating. During a normal cooling season, this rating determines the AC’s cooling output as a percentage of the total electric energy input. A higher SEER number indicates that the system uses less energy. What Is SEER2?

An updated benchmark for energy efficiency, SEER2 stands for seasonal energy efficiency ratio 2. While 13.41 is the minimum requirement for air conditioners, most new models have SEER2 ratings between 13 and 21. You can procure Trane air conditioners with SEER2 ratings ranging from 13.4 to 21.5.

Can You Get in Trouble for Not Following SEER2 Ratings?

In the North, you can still install air conditioners made before January 1, 2023. However, in the South, as of January 1, you can only install air conditioners that comply with SEER 2 standards. The DOE may require anyone who is in violation of these standards to replace the non-compliant air conditioner.
